........MARDI GRAS........

Mardi Gras came to North America as a sedate French Catholic celebration in the late 17th century.  The season begins on or before the Epiphany and ends on Mardi Gras (or, Fat Tuesday in English), the day before Ash Wednesday.  Over the centuries, the Mardi Gras celebration has abandoned it's 17th century roots.  Today....Not so sedate!!  So, let's party like they do in The Big Easy!!!

Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler!!!

Activities

Mask Decorating Contest- have enough of these paper mache masks for every guest at your party.  Set up a work table with the masks, acrylic paints, glitter, rhinestones, feathers, ribbons, glue, etc.  Let each guest decorate their own mask (which they can wear throughout the evening).  Then guests model their handiwork, and everyone votes on the best mask.  Award beads to the guest with the most creative mask, the most colorful mask, the most beautiful mask, etc.

Mardi Gras Trivia- Ask questions throughout the evening.  Award beads to the guests that answer the questions correctly.

Prizes

Award Mardi Gras beads to the winners of all the contests.  The guests with the most beads at the end of the evening win prizes!

Zydeco CD - Zydeco music can be heard at most Cajun get togethers.
 Harry Connick CD - Harry's a N'awlins' hometown boy!
