In large bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.
Gradually add flour, salt, and baking soda. Beat until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts (if you're using them).
Cut 3 aluminum foil strips to 18" long and 3" wide. Place strips of foil crossways over 14" pizza pan. Allow the excess to hang over the sides of pan to be used as handles to lift the cookie out of the pan once cookie is baked. Spray pan (lined with foil strips) with cooking spray and spread cookie batter evenly in pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Cool cookie in pan on a cooling rack. Lift out of pan with "handles" (if you experience resistance while removing the cookie from the pan; turn the pan over and tap the bottom. Then using the "handles", coax it out of the pan).
*If you're using a heart shaped cake pan, this recipe will make two giant cookies. So, only use 1/2 of the cookie dough per cookie.
