Sauerbraten Meatballs

The mix of spices make these absolutely FAB.... Meatballs!!
PREP TIME: 15 min.
COOK TIME: 40 min.
1/4 c milk
1/4 c dried bread crumbs
1/8 t ground cloves
1/8 t ground allspice
1/4 t ground cinnamon
1/2 t salt
1/4 t pepper
1 lb lean ground beef
2 T vegetable oil
1 c red wine vinegar
1 c beef broth
3/4 t ground ginger
1 bay leaf
1 T brown sugar
2 gingersnap cookies
    1. In a medium bowl, soak bread crumbs in milk; add cloves, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Add beef, and shape into meatballs, about 1 1/2 " in diameter.
    2. In a large saucepan, brown meatballs in hot oil over medium heat; remove from pan, and drain on paper towels.
    3. Return to saucepan. Add vinegar, beef broth, ginger, bay leaf, and sugar. Simmer over low heat for 30 minutes.
    4. Remove meatballs; set aside, and keep warm.
    5. Crush gingersnap cookies to a powder, and stir into sauce; stir until thickened. Pour through a wire mesh strainer, discarding solids.
    6. Serve meatballs with sauce.
