A strata (and especially this strata!!) is the perfect breakfast dish.  It can be made ahead and reheated- Great for a brunch party!

COOK TIME: 35 minutes
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 cup crumbled fully cooked bulk sausage
  • 3/4 cups chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1/3 cup chopped red pepper 
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 1/2 TBSP olive oil
  • 1 (8 ounce) container softened cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup half-and-half 
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups cubed day-old French bread
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • DIRECTIONS
    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
    2. Saute the mushrooms, onions, peppers and garlic in olive oil until vegetables are tender. Drain and pat dry; Add cooked sausage set aside.
    3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and cream until smooth. Whisk in eggs. Add bread cubes, cheddar cheese, salt, pepper and vegetable mixture.
    4. Pour into a greased 11-in. x 7-in. x 2-in. baking dish. Bake, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
